A group for people in the King's Lynn area concerned about climate change
Don’t miss it! Before the Flood
A really well made film with good reviews – a powerful tool for engaging those among our family and friends who perhaps don’t have a great sense of the urgency of the problem.
Our showing of this excellent film comes almost exactly 100 years after the term “greenhouse effect” appeared. The famous (not least in USA) Alexander Graham Bell warned in 1917 about the dangers of fossil fuel burning to carbon dioxide as over-heating the planet. He considered biofuel ethanol, waste methane and solar panels as alternative energy sources.
The earliest discoveries were made during the 19th century — air as a heat trap (Fourier), carbon dioxide’s effect demonstrated experimentally (Tyndall) and then calculated (Arrhenius).
Awful that the madly greedy (we burn for cash) continue to lead the foolishly uncaring (we see no proof) toward disaster for us all.
