Global Climate Strike in week when ex government’s chief science adviser says he’s ‘scared’ by the pace of climate change

The Global Climate Strike proposed by Greta Thunberg is upon us- this Friday. Adults as well as school pupils were called upon to take part, to gather with others and raise our voices. Greta has said that the situation is so serious that we need to feel panic not concern and the strike comes in a week when Prof Sir David King, ex-chief scientific advisor has written about ‘being scared’ at what he sees happening in terms of climate change.
There will be gatherings on Friday in Cambridge and Norwich and a local one, called by Extinction Rebellion outside Boots on King’s Lynn High Street, 1-3pm. Please bring placards and friends if you can.

In the evening the King’s Lynn Community Cinema Club and the Trades Council are putting on a free showing of the film The Age of Stupid* at Marriott’s Warehouse (top floor) at 7pm.
It’s a great film to invite others to. There will be a speaker before the film – Harry from the UK Students Climate Network. We have asked if we can have a shared table with XR so people can get advice at the end about what they can do personally. We have flyers to give out but need a couple of people to run it. (It’s a special family birthday so I can’t be there.) I’m guessing that even slipping in at 8.30 would work… PLEASE CAN YOU HELP? Please email or text me 07914454816.

Much needed meeting: Monday October 7th at 7.15pm in the barn at the Friends Meeting House Bridge Street, PE30 5AB.
We need to work on planning the workshop with councillors, council officers and a wide section of the community around the issue of climate change and the Local Plan.
Help also needed researching a large scale tree planting project which the churches may well show interest in. Please come!
